Waste paper and carton division
Over 1.1 million tonnes of waste paper are used annually in Switzerland for the production of paper and carton. 168 kg per person or a total of 1.3 million tonnes of waste paper and carton are collected in Switzerland every year. Efficient collection and transport systems form the basis for high Swiss waste paper utilisation rates.
-
90% of Switzerland's paper fibre requirement is obtained by recycling waste paper.
-
Waste paper fibres can be recycled 5-7 times.
-
One tonne of fibre from waste paper requires 5 times less electricity compared to production from wood.
A framework agreement regulates the acceptance of waste paper from household collections between the municipalities and cities and the factories and disposal companies. It gives the municipalities a purchase guarantee and secures the raw material source for the buyers. The framework agreement and the subsequent individual contracts (between the municipality and the customer) can prevent the introduction of a compulsory state solution in the form of an advance disposal fee.

Iron and steel scrap recycler division
Iron scrap is one of the most important recycling products of our time. In Switzerland, around 1,500,000 tonnes of domestic scrap metal are professionally processed every year.
A finely meshed collection system collects the scrap iron, which is then separated from foreign material and contamination in special processing facilities. Iron scrap prepared in this way can then be used in the foundry and steel industry and remoulded into high-quality products.
Requirements for the scrap
The scrap types must comply with the applicable "General Terms of Delivery and Acceptance for Steelworks Scrap", i.e. the following criteria must be met:
-
Dimensions/geometry
-
Analysis/metallurgy
-
Hazardous substances, hollow bodies / safety
-
Contamination/ecology
The degree of contamination is of great importance. Debris in general, plastic, rubber (e.g. cables), paint, etc. cause enormous emissions when melted down:
-
Heavy metal contamination
-
Dioxin formation
-
Odour development
Iron scrap is categorised according to its origin, metallurgy, size and intended use:
