INDUSTRY SOLUTION FCOS

The VSMR industry solution (No. 42) approved in accordance with the guidelines of the Federal Coordination Commission for Occupational Safety (FCOS) is open to all steel, metal and paper recycling companies.

The aim is to reduce the frequency of accidents and eliminate health hazards.

The VSMR provides relevant information and tools with the industry-specific manual template. This enables companies to set up and introduce their own simple and quickly realisable safety system.

The VSMR industry solution also guarantees the legally required involvement of specialists in occupational safety and health protection (ASG) for the affiliated member companies - collectively.

The range of services offered includes internal and external training courses, experience exchange conferences, annual impulse programmes, monthly bulletins, regular short notifications, industry-specific checklists, etc.

The industry-wide solution was certified by the FCOS for the first time in 2000 and is reviewed every five years. The current certificate is valid until 2027.

EDUCATION

The VSMR is committed to basic and further education in a variety of ways. And for good reason: the ecological and economic challenges of the secondary raw materials industry can only be mastered with solid training for employees.

TECHNICAL COMMISSION

The "Environment & Recycling" Technical Commission deals with environmentally friendly disposal and other challenges facing the industry. Nina Misteli, Head of the Technical Commission, and the pool of experts are actively working on best practice for the Swiss recycling industry.

SPECIALISED DIVISIONS

The VSMR brings together specialists in qualified working groups:

  • Waste paper and carton division

  • Iron and steel scrap recycler division

FIRE PROTECTION

Fires can occur during the disposal and recycling of lithium-ion batteries. The VSMR documents the experiences of its members and provides information on how to handle lithium-ion batteries more safely and prevent such and other fires.

ENFORCEMENT AIDS

In accordance with the Environmental Protection Act, recycling companies are also subject to the requirements of waste legislation and now the Radiological Protection Ordinance. Companies that work in compliance with the law are guided by the relevant enforcement aids for the respective legal decree. The association supports its members with the framework conditions.
